You Should Know About Me

Key Strengths

Monetization • Product management • Analytics • Strategic Partnerships • mobile devices • Mobile Applications

Key Accomplishments Led the company to trial user populations, and this user feedback quickly led to company re-branding and new business model. Established in house testing and design disciplines, put relationships in place with 3 new development agencies (all our new FTE devs came from the best of these contractors). Executed a tactical MVP re-purposing of the prior product into the new product so we could get fast, weekly feedback. We iterated our way to a net-promoter score of 40+ for 5 different training programs in 7 months. Designed and shipped a fully simplified user experience and complete end-to-end lifecycle for consumers plus sophisticated e-Commerce and analytics functionality.

INRIX: Joined INRIX to head up consumer mobile efforts. Built team up to over 30 people. Instituted agile development, got the first consumer-engagement notification loops in place and built the the company's first cloud service to back-end the mobile apps. Hired first designers and revamped the user-experience of the INRIX Traffic app to better meet competitive expectations and play to INRIX's strengths in traffic incident data. Re-negotiated supplier contract for traffic cameras, and got new deals in place for route computation, turn-by-turn directions, a free map control, and speed traps. After Google acquired Waze, pivoted the division's strategy to building mobile SDKs to major customers that wanted their own traffic-aware experiences (e.g. Samsung and The Weather Channel).

Zipline Games: Became VP of Marketing for Zipline Games in 2011 before the first private beta of the Moai game development platform. Work on branding, product positioning, PR, social media, blogging, writing and video creation brought in the first 10,000 registered developers for the Moai platform, 70,000 monthly page views to and led to a successful three-platform launch for the company's first in-house title, Wolf Toss, which went on to gather nearly 2 million installs. Stepped into the executive producer role for Zipline's second title, Slots Tycoon, which had healthy ARPDAU and ARPU numbers and achieved a $1M revenue run rate.

Vibrant Chocolate: Founded vitamin-fortified gourmet chocolate company, Vibrant Chocolate, in 2011. The company quickly went on to win awards, sell in local Seattle stores, took the grand prize in Verisign's .COM for Small Business contest ($50K prize), and raised outside financing from Lighter Capital.

World Blender: Joined Techstars-backed mobile games company, World Blender, as co-founder/CEO in 2010. Developed the company's Angel pitch, brought in a third co-founder, and acquired the company's first shipping game title in first 8 weeks in the role. With bigger location-based gaming companies already in market (e.g. Booyah), financing did not come together fast enough to keep the founding team together.

Ontela: Employee #2 at Ontela in 2006. Led product management through launches on over 30 wireless carriers. Ontela's primary photo uploading product won the CTIA award for Best Social Networking Application in 2008, and the company was named in the Dow Jones Top 10 in Wireless List and as Breakthrough Startup of the Year by the WTIA. Ontela grew to 35 employees and merged with Photobucket Corporation at the end of 2009. Also started a new complementary line of business based on web technologies, ran marketing and PR efforts for 2 years, ran engineering for a year, and managed the IP portfolio for 3 years.

Microsoft: Served as Group Program Manager on 3 Microsoft product releases (spanning Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and FrontPage). Earned my user-centric design chops working on Microsoft Office UI and help systems prior to team management roles. Went through Microsoft business and leadership training with Wharton B-school professors over a 2 year period. Earned multiple Gold Star awards from division VPs.

How I like to work with people As a Cofounder

* Focus on creating and delivering value to customers and monitoring their response.
* MVPs to iteratively test the key parts of the business model, while allocating a few key factors for standout-design.
* A sound technical basis that leads to faster engineering progress and better business decisions.
* Great first-hand experience of the ups and downs of successful venture-funded startups, angel-funded startups, and bootstrapped startups.
* The flexibility and all-around "athleticism" that's critical to fill skillset gaps in an early stage startup.
* Energy, enthusiasm, and an awesome drive to produce.
