Key Accomplishments

As a technical founder, I implemented the front and backend of using using on-demand supercomputing to run the weather forecasts, Amazon Web Services for cloud infrastructure, and Drupal/JavaScript for the responsive user interface. Since March 2014, we acquired 100+ paying subscribers for our San Francisco Bay sailing forecast using PayPal and Recurly for subscription management.

For my PhD dissertation at Stanford University, I studied the offshore wind energy resource off the majority of the US coasts. I published three peer reviewed papers, which combined with supporting material became the basis for my dissertation. Being challenged to produce to large research document mentally prepares you to take on large tasks with a divide and conquer approach.

Nicholas Cizek
They're my school  •  Sustainability Platform Program Manager, Facebook. Previously ARPA-E Fellow, Advanced Research Projects Agency—Energy (ARPA-E).
Mike and I worked together on an extracurricular renewable energy project related to a startup he founded and to a separate startup I had pl ... anned to found. It was a hardware/software project where roughly speaking he was in charge of software and I was in charge of hardware. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Mike. His technical skills are excellent, he is a clear communicator, and he is a straight shooter who did everything he said he would do and more. If our project would have yielded a more favorable commercial picture I would have tried very hard to get him to cofound my planned startup.
