Key Accomplishments

My passion is creating the connective tissue between design, engineering, and business strategy for early stage startups. I’m especially fascinated with platforms with potential to transform knowledge exchange. Here are some of my favorite projects that I owned:

CNET/CBSi:

* We built, from scratch, a new CMS for CNET and CBSNews.com for managing home pages, image galleries, and blogging. We created an interface for non-technical editors to to manage the rules of automation populating dynamic content modules.

* We launched the CNET River, a unified stream of all the content published by content. CNET editors could include #cnet to add their tweets to the river visible on the CNET home page. Users could sort the river by recency or by a popularity algorithm based on social media metrics.

* We launched CNET product finders in eight categories such as laptops and digital cameras. Users would answer a series of simple questions to receive product recommendations. We designed a system for editors to easily codify buying advice into search queries against the catalog.

GoodGuide

* We built, from scratch, a new platform that retailers such as Target use to track the sustainability of their supply chains through collecting vendor data, codifying their sustainability standards, and reporting/search tools.

* We built a personalization system where users could select which health, environmental, and social issues they care about and see which products match their values, either via the GoodGuide website/app or while browsing sites like Amazon via a browser extension.

* In partnership with a major retailer, we launched advertising on GoodGuide.com in the form of traditional display ads and native ads including a branded storefront.

I also enjoy writing about product development. I organize my thoughts here:

Very thoughtful product manager - has the right mix of understanding technical issues and thinking like a user/customer. He's the right per ... son to help keep a complicated system feel simple.

Dan is an innovative thinker with boundless energy. He is the rare idea person who also knows how to execute rapidly. Engineers regularly ... describe him as the best product person they've ever worked with. He is a strong leader and is excellent at aligning a team around a shared vision.

Dan is one of the most deeply thoughtful product leaders that I've ever worked with. I have never in my career had a better intellectual par ... ter. He has the ability to make his insights relevant to his team and through his products, to consumers. I've worked together with Dan twice over the last 10 years and I've seen him grow into a capable leader. A perfect fit would be a technical cofounder with the ability to intellectually partner from concept through full execution.
