Key Accomplishments

I have been working in the tech industry since 1997, starting my career as a tech analyst at Andersen Consulting at the "Internet Centers of Excellence," based in San Francisco & Palo Alto. In 1998, I left to join a startup called mySimon, a comparison shopping website. There, I started as an engineering generalist, coding and then eventually managing a tech team of 20. At CNET, after managing a team of engineers through a massive integration project, I moved over to the business side where I ran the mySimon business unit, responsible for product direction, marketing, and the general running of the site.

In 2005, I left to co-found Floor64, a company that created three products in the corporate intelligence space, most notably a blog called Techdirt. In 2010, I left Floor64 to be VP of Product at Infochimps, a big data startup, where I worked until December of 2011. Infochimps was acquired by CSC in 2013.

In 2012, I co-founded Bureau of Trade. We build a curated vintage marketplace for men, and, in 2013, we were acquired by eBay.

How I like to work with people As a Cofounder

I am a generalist. Meaning, I can figure out how to do pretty much anything that needs to be done. On the technical side, I've coded (strongest in PHP, CSS, Javascript, & HTML) and handled SysAdmin/IS/IT (I set up & architected the network & servers for mySimon & Techdirt). And, on the product side, I'm accustomed to creating technically rich product specs, as well as project managing them if need be. On the business side, I'm adept at customer prospecting, marketing and sales when needed.

That said, I have no doubts that there are better engineers, designers, product, marketing & sales folks out there -- but, in the early phases of a company, I can wear these hats as needed and perform them with sufficient acumen.

Dennis is someone you want to spend a lot of time with. He's always positive and brings a lot of energy and thoughtfulness to every conversa ... tion. Dennis is strong across sectors including marketplaces, ecommerce and payments (bitcoin), and as a developer and product lead, can not only do the customer development, but also build the product. I worked with Dennis for 1.5 years at Infochimps from 2010-2011 and we still keep in touch weekly to share ideas and get feedback from each other on what we're working on. He's a great friend and colleague and makes for an excellent advisor.
