Key Accomplishments

At PARC I am the Chief Innovation Officer of Augmented Social Cognition, leading a team to invent, strategize, and deliver social computing technologies to augment human cognition in several application areas, including health and wellness.

My research expertise includes artificial intelligence and cognitive science -- spanning natural language processing, case-based reasoning, machine learning, educational technology, social media, and AI applications.

I am a serial entrepreneur with a proven track record in driving research to successful commercialization. I have co-founded four startups: OpenStudy, the first large-scale open social learning network for students and educators; Enkia (acquired by Sentiment360), which developed AI software for social media applications; Cobot Health, a social network for healthcare information; and Ardext, which provided software for testing electronic components and systems.

Prior to PARC, I was Director of Georgia Tech’s Cognitive Computing Lab and Associate Professor in the College of Computing. I have a PhD from Yale University, MS from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and BTech from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, where I received the President of India's Gold Medal for valedictorians.

I am a closet anthropologist and love travel, people, and culture.

How I like to work with people As a Cofounder

Vision, experience, biz-tech expertise, strategy.

Combining technology innovation and business strategy: how to build a technology idea and take it to market.

Human-centered computing: what makes people tick, how to create technology they will want to use, and how to make them want to use it.

Ashwin has an intellect and set of analytical skills that far surpass almost any other entrepreneur I've met. Some people know "a little ab ... out a lot", I would say Ashwin knows "a lot about a lot", with tremendous depth of experience and knowledge in all things startups, social, edtech, and AI. Ashwin leverages his vast knowledge base and network to drive new ideas and connections, and has a proven track record of applying his skills in building successful startups. He was instrumental in my time working with OpenStudy, and a critical part to its success (~1M students/month) and ongoing opportunities. I want him on my team when our paths cross again.

I believe Ashwin would be a great entrepreneur because he can mix cutting edge technology with business. As a professor at one of the top mu ... lti-disciplinary research centers in the world, Ashwin earned his credentials in advanced science. And through his work at Parc and his other entrepreneurial activities, he showed his passion for bringing that science to market in the form of products and services. Ashwin will bring awesome innovation, vision, and raw intellect to a founding team, and I recommend him strongly.
