Key Accomplishments

Lately I've been consulting to major media companies on Operations , Product & Technology. Sometimes this involves mediating disagreements between the Business and Technology sides. Often it means trying to find and fix problems in their operation: their video strategy doesn't work, they want to build out an email product but don't know how, they need to generate more revenue via advertising. I help the leaders audit their technology and vendors, and work with their in-house tech team to find cost-effective solutions they feel comfortable with to move forward.

The last FT job I had was at IAC, where I was recruited to be the CTO & Head of Product for TheDailyBeast. I managed a handful of departments + P&Ls, audited all the code, kept the site running (as in on-call 24/7 and personally managed deployments), and built a new department up. I also worked on the Newsweek merger details. As we started to merge teams, I shifted my focus to running Product and working on Revenue/Retention/Acquisition.

In the past, I've helped record labels manage digital strategy, ran Product/Engineering at some NYC startups, and worked at Interactive and Advertising agencies as both a developer , strategist and client manager. I've been on the founding team of 2 startups before : I co-founded ( the first cross-network social network system; it was sort of like Facebook Connect + Google's OpenSocial, but 2 years before either ) and was the CTO of ( online arts publishing turned into limited edition prints ). I also advise a few NYC startups.

How I like to work with people As a Cofounder

Personality wise: Not only can I work with the business/marketing and the technology side -- but I can help them understand one another. I'm an "all hands in" person and willing to do the menial grunt work when needed, just so we can hit a release date. I understand the business and sales side extremely well and can code with the best of them. Industry wise: I'm very well respected by former colleagues , clients and vendors -- who are the top people in tech, media and advertising. My network is great. With all that being said, I have a very deep understanding of Publishing, Advertising ( not just tech, but how it's bought and sold ) and the music industry.
