Laurence Yang
Scientist, Intrexon Corporation. University of Toronto grad.
Working with Iman has been a rare privilege that positively shaped my transition from newly minted PhD to effective professional. While repo ... rting directly to her as a Scientist at Intrexon Corp., I came to see her as a role model of an effective executive, leader, and adviser. In research, Iman ensured that the right science was being done, and that the science was done right. Through her coaching, every team member developed the personal responsibility to justify research effort in alignment with concrete project or company goals. Further, her ability to constantly uplift my vision to higher standards of performance and scientific questioning, and practical project management skills helped me to experience an exhilarating level of efficiency and quality in applied science research that I still hold as the standard of my own productivity to this day. Iman constantly demonstrated dedication to the team’s personal development. In one example, she led us through an enlightening strength-finding team exercise—the results of which I still reflect on, occasionally. And despite her evolving roles and responsibilities from Senior Director to VP, her attention to our personal development and career goals never wavered. Iman nurtured an environment of scientific curiosity, quality and productivity, free from the worries of company politics or bureaucracy—a scientific haven amidst a rapidly expanding SME that could have only been achieved through ferocious (yet somehow invisible to me) battles on her part at the executive level. Finally, Iman’s mastery of her own energy, and its positive influence on her colleagues cannot be understated. Jim Collins said that great startups begin by getting the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right people in the right seats. Any organization, startup or otherwise, with the goal to succeed would best reserve a seat for Iman.

You can always trust that Roy would examine an idea from all different aspects you haven't even thought of. He is very creative, strategic, ... and analytical. If a project is important to me, I never start until I run it by Roy first.
