You Should Know About Me

Key Strengths

Editing • Journalism • Social Media • Writing • Corporate communications

Key Accomplishments

I spent years writing interview-based articles for two PwC publications and wrote and ghosted columns about growing businesses, with a seven year stint covering VC-backed companies (PwC's Nextwave) and startup stars that put many VCs and Silicon Valley startup stars into my virtual orbit (Techstars co-founder Brad Feld was among my favorites and remains so). I learned much before the Bubble burst as the voice of online pioneer,, and after, branded and helped to spin off the precision metrology equipment arm of Newport Corporation, while creating collateral materials, key pieces of strategic marketing campaigns and the accountant's chapter in the Silicon Valley Edge (Stanford University Press, 2001). It was my earlier work with a pioneer online publishing startup in NYC and acquiring computer books for Simon & Schuster (Brady) with Apple programmers and CompuServe master guides that made me crave living on the edge of new things. I did much of this and more from the safety of my home office as I raised three sons. I am so grateful to my friend, Pete Johnson, CEO of Apollo Matrix, Inc., mobile apps development service company for letting me help out as I learn more about the DC Tech community. I teach a rockin' spin class twice a week so I have energy to burn.

How I like to work with people As a Cofounder

I take in information and think about how and when to distill it and convey it to founders, funders and a target market meaningfully in many forms. I have learned to listen to people, especially those with deep areas of expertise. Being a non-cranky grownup with social skills helps me connect and keep a conversation going, which comes in handy for managing focus groups to find out what problems people are trying to solve and how to communicate about a product or service that enables them to do something they might never have dreamed they ever could. I can't be sure I can tell my future founding team what exactly I'm looking for, but I'll know it when I see it.

They're my friends  •  Cofounder / CEO, LifeFuels. Previously Creator, Producer, Executive Producer, Startupland.
He's realized some interesting projects, such as DC-based Fortify.VC (the Fort) accelerator. He produced StartupLand, the movie, and narrat ... ed with first -person interviews and segments filmed in continuous - but - brief segments, documentary style. His most recent venture, LifeFuels, is a work in progress. His years as a government contractor -- and as the father of three, two boys and a girl -- have taught Jonathon to be patient, productive, and a good listener. Except he doesn't realize how help I could provide in his next project and should call to catch up!
