You Should Know About Me

Key Accomplishments

I've been an entrepreneur most of my career. I have a reputation for spotting and capitalizing on trends early on. I was the first person in Austin to do production work on a Mac. That's how I came to found Go Media. We did production and design, and made the transition to web design and development in 1994. We were the first design firm in Austin, and one of the first in the country to build websites.

I sold Go Media to Excite in 1996, and my team became their Austin office. We did the strategy, design, and development of all their community products. We built the first standalone instant messaging program in the US (back then they were known as "Buddy Lists". Communities was the only profitable area of Excite.

When I founded Launchpad Coworking + Cafe, there were no coworking spaces in Austin. Very few people even knew what coworking was. Unfortunately I was a little to early on that one - after 3 years of a team of 6 working on it, we got caught up in the economic downturn and never opened. What an education that was! I'm a whole lot smarter now.

How I like to work with people As a Cofounder

I like to work with people with strengths in areas I don't. I want partners who really own their part of the work. While I've had success as an individual founder, I prefer collaborating. I'm at my best with a partner/peer with whom I can brainstorm, and explore, and disagree :)

As an Advisor

I like to dive in, learn the business, and help figure out the right strategy to move forward. I believe rapid iteration, creative testing methods, and a willingness to fail fast are critical to the success of startups.

I'm candid. OK, I'm blunt. Nothing personal. But if you already know you need to make some changes, let's get to the solution as quickly as possible.

I consider myself a strategist, and I'm really good at helping companies figuring out the best way to meet their goals.
