Relationship to Reference: Shawn has been a close associate and colleague for the past 7 years. During that time, my relationship with S ... hawn has been multi-faceted. Shawn currently serves as an advisor to CIOs who are currently in transition and has been an integral part of the CIO Scholarship Fund which has raised over $1 million for under privileged students. Technical Skills and Experience: Shawn is currently serving as an advisor to a start up in the Silicon Valley. He consults with the CIO, the IT staff and Stake Holders, providing advice, and orchestrating an important initiative. All of this was accomplished despite his already active schedule. I would just like to outline some of my observations noticed about Shawn: · Shawn always maintains the highest ethical and professional standards · Shawn works alongside the Community of CIOs with great perseverance to assist them with their internal struggles, issues and goals · Shawn is highly respected for your “thought leadership” and quick response to issues that arise · Shawn take great pride in his work, and the clients he supports Leadership/Management Style: To summarize my own observances, Shawn (as a leader) integrates himself as part of the team and works tirelessly with them to ensure that they meet the special needs and facilitate knowledge-transfer to internal and external customers. Shawn provides attention to every detail necessary for the team to be successful at every initiative, and his dedication extends beyond these normal activities. As our leader on several fronts, Shawn greatly enriched the knowledge that we were able to share. I have observed Shawn performing customer relations functions with associates, having the team fulfill special requests in order to enhance the customer’s experience, and ensuring all needs have been met. It is my personal opinion that with Shawn in an advisory leadership position, any individual or team working to satisfy organization mission and management will be successful. His presence at meetings and working sessions brings demonstrated knowledge and motivation required for a successful project. Shawn’s determination and attention to detail are well known amongst Silicon Valley CIOs. Communication Skills: The CIO community at large is not known for being particularly outgoing or communicative. Anyone who meets Shawn knows that his communication skills and ability to put people at ease are second to none, even outside the CIO profession. Shawn is often consulted for advice on how to handle sticky situations at work, as well as the best ways to ensure standard and ad-hoc communications are effective, transparent and leave no questions unanswered. Analytical Skills: The purpose of the CIO Communities that Shawn facilitates is to assist seasoned CIOs with their toughest problems. Sometimes these issues are what an individual CIO is facing, politically, at their place of work. More often, the issues that Shawn helps them resolve are related to “the next thing”. Shawn does not provide platitudes in the meeting, but follows up with the CIOs, to help determine the root cause of their problem. Shawn is also a strategic thinker, so he routinely helps CIOs see that their issues will be long standing unless corrective action is taken. He then helps them create three alternatives suitable for presentation to company management. Additional Strengths: Shawn has a dedication to excellence, as well as a strong commitment to enhancing the customer’s positive experience and this if often acknowledged by his peers. It is professionals like Shawn who speak well of Chief Information Officers and compliment their image in the business community. By his example, other professionals concentrate on providing their best possible experience for the customer. In closing, I would like to note that Shawn brings excellence both his work life, his home life, and his volunteerism. With people like Shawn, your organization and its customers can look forward to long and mutually beneficial relationships.
