Equity

Equity in common usage means the state of being impartial and fair. For example, something that is shared fairly among deserving people is said to have been shared equitably. In business, equity is the value of the ownership shares issued by a company. For example, a company with 1 million shares valued at $4 per share has an equity of $4 million ($4 X 1 million).
