E-commerce engine and business model

We are developing an 'e-commerce engine' to publish (consumer goods client's) products directly on to major ecomm sites from a cloud product database. We would provide admin capabilities to manage availability and pricing. We are still tackling the 'business' issues related to fulfillment, returns, invoicing etc from the 'ecomm' sites to product manufacturers.

I would really appreciate if someone has insight into this business model to provide us comments and suggestions based on their experience of interacting buyers and logistics teams of ecomm sites like amazon, soap, rakuten, yoyo, zappos etc etc.

Quite a competitive space. Look at: - Channel Advisor - Stitch Labs - Ordoro - Lettuce - whole plethora of specialists in that category that also manage fulfillment From mp side, there is a certain degree of ambivalence about 3p integrators since there are so many of them. The ones that manage stock/fulfillment in difficult-to-access categories (e.g. OneStop and EFS in fashion) get more love to a certain extent but the mfg's usually ultimately make the call about the integration. Stitch Labs (and it's competitors) are a little different in that they opened up connections to lots of the next generation marketplaces so it's a slightly different approach to the e-commerce space and they carry different types of sellers. Also, their product is a reflection of newer front-end technologies so it speaks to small players who are not datafeed or EDI savvy.

Matt Rutledge is your man. https://mediocre.com/
He perfected the one-day-only immediate liquidation (online) concept. woot.com , now is doing a outsourced logistics concept called Mediocre. think ecommerce warehousing distribution outsourcee. you bring the sales/web, they do all the physical-world fulfillment.

....started Synapse Micro, a computer hardware distributor, in Dallas in 1994 at the age of 22 and grew the business to over 50 million in revenue over the following 10 years. In 2004, Matt invented the daily deal site with the launch of Woot.com, grew the business to millions of customers and hundreds of millions in revenue, and was acquired by Amazon.com in 2010. After several years at Amazon, Matt left and is back in startup mode with Mediocre Laboratories, an umbrella entity to launch "experimental ecommerce" business models at future websites with a single sign-in.

It seems as though you are recreating the wheel. I would agree with most here in that there are already plenty of companies that do this for Volusion, Shopify, Bigcommerce and Magento - Channel Advisor being a pretty big one.

I agree - this is not a path I would go down, at least with the approach you have mentioned. The field is too crowded.
