Hacks to build facebook community

Hi everyone!
I was wondering if people can share what methods if any have others used to grow an online community on facebook. If you manage a page on facebook, what hacks have you used to get more likes ?
Is number of likes even a meaningful metric to track?
I read an article that going forward Facebook is going to show less content from pages and more from friends in a user's feed. With such changes to facebook, would you still recommend using facebook as a good platform for building an online community ?
At what point should I consider hiring a marketing agency or buying a tool to make this process easier ?
Thanks a lot in advance!

This is a very difficult question to answer.as a marketing person and someone who runs an agency that does this for clients, it's important that you have an understanding of what you really want from social media. Is it for PR or awareness or is it to actually help drive sales? Getting likes is not a useful metric at all unless it's tied to something larger. It also depends on what you are selling. Facebook may not be the place for you to be at all. I would recomend the bookJab Jab Jab Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk. It really explains how to use social media to market. He covers all the major networks including facebook. It also includes case studies so you can see the principles that matter.

I agree with Dennis 100%. I just read an article, not too long ago, showing how social media in general has not been linked to an appreciable percent of conversions when it comes to sales. I have heard that blogging and other methods are more effective. If I find the article I'll post it here.

There are a bunch of articles like this one, however:
