I was a member of TechShop Durham and oh boy it was worth it. Many businesses were launched out of what was learned and created there.- Dev Tester & breaker of things.

I've been a member on and off at TechShop. Given what you get, it's a steal for a monthly membership, which I believe is somewhere around $130/month. Similar to other places, you need to be certified on a machine in order to use it.

The classes offered through TechShop are also great. The instructors are generally available for inquiries outside of class as well.

I am member and have corporate membership.

It's helpful for now and then projects and if you need a place to build for one day or to use some equipment. If your planning to really build something for a number of days; it is VERY difficult.
It does not have a place to do any multi-day production and you are often fighting for equipment, especially the laser cutters. Like all places the equipment goes down; this is OK for hobbyist or doing your own project on your own time, but can prove to be challenging if again you have quick turnarounds or clients with tight deadlines.

The classes are good, people nice, it's management of accounts is run poorly, though they are friendly and do respond. I've been a member since the beginning and it's helpful for my team when we need something done. The community there is usually pretty friendly too and you can find help.

There are good workshops, classes, and people. What is it you want to use it for?
