Recommendation for a personal accountant in SF/Bay Area?

My current personal cpa/accountant isn't very tech-savvy and isn't up to speed on how my LLC or S-Corp will affect my personal taxes.

Can anyone recommend a CPA/accountant that is:
  • willing to do personal taxes
  • also able to grow into handling accounting for a startup as it grows
  • capable of handling paperwork digitally (e.g. e-signatures, online forms etc.)
  • familiar with tax issues around LLCs/S-corps
  • fairly rapid in their response to issues
  • Not too expensive
  • Preferably based around the Bay Area.

I tried someone recommended off of one of the older discussion topics and they said they don't handle personal taxes at all.

Thanks!

-Jeff

My CPA is with them (after they acquired Mohler-Nixon). He's familiar with startup issues.

Hi Jeff,

I highly recommend David Burleigh over at H&R block (located at Golden Gate and Van Ness - easy parking nearby so you can visit in person if you like).

David worked at Apple early on, and is an entrepreneur himself, so he "gets it". Plus, he and his teammate (I forget her name) have been doing this for 15 years each, so they are extremely fast and efficient. They can easily help you with your personal filings (I REALLY wish I would have gone to them two years ago when I first started out) and they know corporate tax law inside and out and will be able to help you save money as well as the stress of trying to deal with these things on your own.

Plus, David is working closely with Xero, as he thinks that's going to be the accounting system of the future. He's a great guy, definitely worth a chat.

Let me know if you'd like an intro.

Best,
-Matt

My accountant, Rick Belgarde, is a great guy, I've been with him for years. In his own words:

"If you own a small business or start-up, chances are you don't have a full-time accounting department. CFO Rick provides the perfect solution by filling the role of your CFO and support staff."

I just wanted to thank everyone for the excellent contacts/leads for an accountant.
It's hard to know who to call out of the phonebook and know I have a bunch of quality candidates to start from.
Happy Holidays,
Jeff
