Need resources for email deliverability

NOTE: I am not looking to hire. FD took my previous post down, so I hope this helps.

The entire business is based on email deliverability. We've looked into SendGrid and other platforms and they are not a good fit for what we need.

I'm taking on the (potentially) monumental task of learning email deliverability. I need to learn how to oversee the following:

- Actively managing the feedback loop (FBL) process- Keeping your sender score high
- Reacting to situations when a customer marks your email as spam
- Pre-testing email content for spamminess. Since some parts of ouremail content is authored byour externalbusiness partners, this process mayneed to be actively managed
- Engaging and managing whitelisting services such as ReturnPath
- Working to determine how the recipient ISPs handle an email that is considered "delivered" and how to maximize inbox delivery rates- Other

Where can I become an expert on this topic or learn enough to get by? Is there someone out in FD-land that would like to be a mentor?

Have you you looked into mailgun or constant contacr. You really shouldnt reinvent this if you can avoid it. PS the censorship on this site is really lame. Has it occurred to FD that we are adults.

ReturnPath as a service and a company are great for this. You want my advice as an industry expert ... hire them and let them manage it. Also, many ESPs have help in this area as well. Depending on who you use you can ask them for help.

Just sat through a deliverability session with one of the top 2 ESPs. Here are the basic rules
  1. Track your e-mail clicks and if possible opens. For any batch of e-mails you send out try to make sure at least 10% (ESP number is different, lower, but I don't want to give all their info away.)
  2. Minimize bounces - should be less than 5% of the batch list.
  3. Make sure you are using a clean IP address.
  4. Follow CAN-SPAM, address in footer, unsubscribe link
As long as your list is clean, no honey pot addresses, you should be okay delivering.

Hey Jason- I hear you on the importance of email. my last start up was a daily deal business, where we were emailing out localized content daily to 200 cities. check out Returnpath for "spamminess" testing- it runs your emails through dozens of isps and tells you the result as well as how they render also use BriteVerify to test your email addresses to ensure they are valid, ie not spam traps/honey pots or dead addresses. gmail gives you next to zero feedback on deliverability. you are best served to work with a leading ESP if your business is so dependent on email deliverability. these companies give you options to manage and monitor your deliverability. I highly recommend WhatCounts. They have both a SaaS version, but for those who send a lot of volume, purchasing a broadcaster from them with a service/monitoring plan is going to save a lot of $ in the long run. For smaller volume, look into mailchimp and plug in Mandrill for the transactional messaging. Daniel Caplin ph. Hi Daniel, Thanks for your insight and feedback. I'd like to talk with you further about what you encountered and the scope of our project. Are you based in Atlanta? I saw the 678 area code, but you can never tell these days. I'm flying to Atlanta in a few minutes. I'll be there around 2:00 pm. I'm in town and available thru Friday. Let me know if you can meet face to face.
