Do you see social media as moving towards a (relatively) permanent form in which it will remain for a large part of the history of the Internet?

Social networks are for some time now taking large part in ordinary people's lives (especially teenagers and younger people). However, it looks like that social media is slowing down the pace and moving towards a relatively permanent form in which it will remain for a large part of the history of the internet. Could you please share your opinions on this subject?

Social media has three main functions: 1) Content distribution, 2) Content organization and 3) Member interactions. As the novelty factor wears off, social media as a platform is likely to decline.

Vertically integrated applications / platforms are likely to subsume many of the social media functions. Member interactions in some areas (for example, news, entertainment, politics) are likely to be strong in social media.
