What is your experience using Slack?

Looking at using Slack for our business. Do you recommend using it and can you share what has been your experience so far? Any plugins that would enhance the experience while using the product?

It's great. Loads of control, all the integrations you could want. Expensive though. We love it and I wouldn't be without it.

Not worth it until you have sufficient people though, I would say. If there are only a few of you then you can get by with WhatsApp.

We have replaced around 80% - 90% of our email threads with Slack at work, the Silicon Valley Simulation Center. On the whole, it's fantastic. Once people get the hang of the concept of not using email, the adoption rate soars. It's easy to learn and use. We do see a challenge around browsing. There is a search feature, but you need to know what you're looking for. There's no way to browse through attachments like you can on a Google drive, for example. Still, a far better way to manage internal communications as opposed to email.

Before Slack we were using email and also the apps from Gmail to communicate with the team. Slack has been able to integrate everything in one place for us. I very much like using the plugins that send us notifications regarding new activities that are happening with our customers. Since Slack has now a fund and it is financing a good amount of young startups the possibilities down the line might be endless and for that reason this should be a long term play for you all.

Love Slack. Used Hipchat before switching and I don't regret the move to Slack. At its core, Slack is simply group chat/messaging--which is enough to increase your organizational productivity--but it also has a lot of plug-ins, bots and other add-ons. My favorite is ScreenHero which allows for screensharing--something Slack doesn't have out of the box.

Our organization is mostly virtual - with most of our tech/dev team onsite at our headquarters in Austin.

As the VP of Marketing based in Laguna Beach, the majority of my internal comms are done on Slack with a Screen Hero integration. Also use Slack Calling with ease. We even have a #bs channel where we share silly memes, pics, quotes, and quirky news -- it has made a difference in our employee engagement.

We love it. It has been the best internal comms tool I have have ever used. I set up specific channels for activities and events and only invite those who are impacted by these activities to participate.

We are only a 30-person team and I love it.

The other companies I work with use Basecamp - which I also like -- but I love the Slack app on both Mobile, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

I am a multi-Slacker and will stay that way.

Slack is a great small team IM tool, I've used it for several projects and we use it now actually. The challenge you'll face as a manager is when you get to 20+ people in a room and there is a lot of chatter. If you don't stay on top of the conversation as a manager you'll lose a lot of valuable information or spend a lot of time trying to dig it out.

The tool I'm working on right now, UpCurrent (upcurrent.co) is actually a multiplatform plugin for Slack as well as Saleforce and Google Apps for larger, dispersed teams. The plugins allow for easy login and notifications. We focus on discussion/suggestion tiles to organize information. We enable crowd voting, commenting and collaboration on the topic tiles in a pivot table like dashboard so managers can quickly get to the important stuff without having to scroll back through long conversations or completely miss something important.

We're looking for pilot program partners if anyone is interested in trying it out.

Slack is a great discussion tool. My company uses it and a number of other tools for a remote collaboration. Virtual communication tools are essential in outsourcing. Read our article on this topic:
