What other major startup hubs exist besides Silicon Valley?

Silicon Valley has been the leading force behind the disruption that technology has brought to the picture. However, innovation seems to be happening everywhere. In your mind what are other major startup hubs out there that should be considered?

Nowadays almost every major city has startup hubs and incubators, basically worldwide. SV is still the leader for start-up capital by far, however there are angel groups and VC's who like to invest locally in all major centers and many are mandated to do so. Check out techstarshttp://www.techstars.com/programs/ they are in 5 countries and 7 major US cities and that is just one organization, there are many. Innovation can come from anywhere today, but network, collaboration, feedback and community are strong assets and motivators for growing a business in an active center. At the end of the day seed capital usually comes from a community of relatedness, thus raising capital probably within an hour drive from where you are based and where people are familiar with you, your team and company.

Hong Kong is developing a local startup scene, but where I think Hong Kong is really going to shine is in being a startup connector. The idea is that if you are a startup anywhere in the world and a funder from anywhere in the world, Hong Kong is the place where you end up connecting.

Let's not omit Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada. There are hundreds of active start-ups in the region, it's a growing community that formed in the wake of BlackBerry's decline. Major tech players like Google, IBM, Intel, Electronic Arts, and many more, have all set up offices nearby as well to benefit from the strong talent pool of young engineers.Full disclosure: I'm a University of Waterloo Engineer.
