Can you have a healthy relationship with your spouse when you are running a startup?

With all the hours that are required behind building a company from the ground up and can not even imagine what would be the way to balance things to also have a healthy relationship with your significant other. Any tips are welcome.

Past client's have included Chalice Recording Studio, HP, Nike, (patented technology)Care Track, Gym Genius, Dudatez, and many other apps.
Yes and still raise 3 kids.

Do the routine mundane things at night while everyone is sleeping. Here's my daily schedule:

Wake up at 7:07, wake up my 3 boys 9, 6, & 5. Get them dressed, teeth brushed, make breakfast, drop at school. Go back home, take a shower, go over social landscape and any emails.

Go to office work my face off til lunch, go get a pokibowl and eat at my desk while watching/learning from a mix bag of podcasts. Take meetings with potential clients between 1:00-3:00 Monday - Friday. Leave office around 5:00 pm, get dinner with wife while our family assistant is picking up kids from school, tutoring kids, taking them to basketball day camp and feeding them dinner. The family meets up at 6-6:30 pm at home. Chill with kids for 2 hours and get them ready for bed, brush teeth and in bed by 8:30 pm, asleep by 9:00 pm. Then I crack open my iPad Pro and go over edits of work from my designers for the apps we are creating for our clients. Submit changes usually by 12:00 midnight. Fall asleep, wake up at 2:00 am do laundry, check for feedback or more changes from team in slack. Go back to sleep and then check again at 4:00 am (I automatically wake up at 2 & 4 mon-fri now) go back to sleep after edits and wake up again at 7:07

Now understand while my schedule is like this my wife is actually waking up at 4:30 am and opening our church every morning for service and going to church every night at 8:00 pm and praying. We love each other and we spend enough time with each other and the kids.

And we both hustle our ass off

Ask people in the medical field, firemen (and women), the military, forest rangers...

It is not the role/responsibility that becomes the primary barrier. It is trust, communication and expectations.

...and the choices made along the way.

If someone truly wants to find ways to spend time with their spouse... they will.

There never seems enough time to spend with those we love spending time with regardless of the responsibilities carried.

Love this question and love the answers. You certainly find out what works and what doesn't when you are running one or two businesses. My guess is nothing would work if you are doing nothing!

I built a multi-six figure consulting business while still employed and managing a 10 million dollar territory. I did all this and still slept 7-8 hours a night, worked out, spend time with my daughter and wife . My perspective is we get one life and we should live it in a way that is aligned with what brings joy. At then end of your life what do you want to look back on and see? How would you have liked to live? The bottomline is, you can create a life that is built by design and not default. You can spend time with your family AND build a business AND take care of yourself. But first, you must believe this is a possibility.

If you can't you can't nothing else. One think is one think. Another think is another think. You can't built two startup at the same time but family, friends have different position and one support other.

We all invest our energy in the things most important to us. A healthy relationship doesn't necessarily take a lot time, but it does takes effort. And if all your effort is going toward your startup, then you have your answer already.

If you are willing to invest in your relationship, then each day, ask yourself a question: "How would my spouse know that he / she was on my mind today?" Relationships are big things, but they are the sum of small efforts on an ongoing basis. A dozen red roses is nice, but a single rose every day for a week is better. Sure--12 is more than 7, but the 7 represents the sum of small things.

This all presumes, of course, that your spouse was on board with decision to start a company. He / she would have to expect that there would be sacrifices, and making sure that he / she knows that they are at the forefront of your mind each day will assure them that they made the right choice.
