How can we find the jewelry retailers / wholesalers address list?

Hi, my friend has a unique product to sell in the US market and would like to reach the Jewelry Retailer / Wholesaler contact information list but we don't know how we can do that. What do you think is the best way to find their contact information?

There are lots of places to buy mailing lists or contact info. The simplest is freshbusinesses.info. I just checked and you can get 230 business names with the name 'Jewelry' in their name for $23.00. You can print a card and mail them or cold-call them.

If you really want to talk to people in the industry, go to a trade show.

Every state has the list of all businesses licensed. Part of the license is an SIC code which indicates the industry. Nearly every state allows you to request and copy the list of any business, and you can sort by industry. HOWEVER, several states also FORBID the use of such lists for solicitation. So, you'll end up with a few gaps on the map, but you'll still be able to get most states. A few states might also require to you show up in person to copy the list (and not mail it to you) or they may charge you to look up and copy the information.

Aside from that, there are a couple of jewelers associations, which of course do not include everyone. There are a number of jewelry-related trade shows, but many of those lists are probably not for sale. It also depends on what you define as a jeweler, because not everyone who sells jewelry is a jewelry store, and not everyone who wholesales jewelry is a jeweler either (think fashion accessories).

Depending on what this product is, you may find more traction by pursuing the lapidary side of the business and not the fashion side. Or it may be even smarter for this friend to approach several stores directly and figure out what the objections are before trying to approach the whole market blindly.

Hello Ervin! Thanks on contacting with me. You may check the online business database ReferenceUSA. A public library should have this database so that you can use it free. Yes, attend the major jewelry trade shows and/or obtain the exhibiter list directory and attendee list if possible. The above mentioned can get you started. Thanks! Daniel

Go on fiverr.com and order a gig for $10-20 to scrape Yellow Pages for the region you are interested in. I payed that much for a list of 25K dentists. Then send an email to all of them, explain you got the email from YP and put a link in the email to a landing page, where they can opt in for whatever you are offering. Whoever opts in is now your own lead and you can solicit them.
There are also other ways, a bit more expensive, to obtain quality leads. I can help you with that, if you are interested.

Unfortunately for the ease it seemingly presents, scraping email addresses and contacting people using publicly listed email is still against the CAN SPAM laws and can result in thousands of dollars in fines per complainant, loss of email accounts, very similar to how sending unsolicited faxes can result in big fines. The more honest you are about who you are when you're sending (which ideally you would be if you actually wanted customers), the easier it is to identify the offender.

If you're going to scrape addresses, direct mail is still the most liberally allowed medium and there's really no way to stop mail (except for recipient to throw it away). Telephone calls are allowed until they ask for no more contact. Unsolicited email and fax aren't allowed because it costs the recipient resources (disc space, paper, etcetera, however small), and if the authority can find the real sender, penalties can be stiff. You might ask why so much SPAM then...it's because those messages rarely come from the company that's soliciting, and those accounts are burned in hours, hijacked, and all manner of hiding the sender (which also makes them highly suspect and not terribly difficult to filter).

One might think that because a company posts their email address it's okay to use it to sell to them, but unfortunately that's not the way the laws have been structured. The email address is to become a customer, not to solicit. So Ervin, if anyone is trying to send you an email prospect list, run away. Pretty much they only way you're able to send advertising email to someone who is not already your customer is through a partner that has a customer relationship with the recipient, such as a magazine, association, or something like that.
