Marketing ideas?

My site is MouseMingle.com - a dating and social site for Disney fans to find each other.

- I'm doing the common marketing - social posts (Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+, and even LinkedIn), Google AdWords.
- I've been a guest on many Disney fan podcasts and have been mentioned (in the past) on nearly 100 news and viral websites.
- I've co-sponsored a few small Disney fan-created events.
- I recently purchased a print ad in the Disneyland cast member (employee) newsletter, which is printed and digital.
- I'm in the process of creating a 'MouseMeet' event that can be duplicated at different locations around the Country (and eventually the world), but I haven't done one yet.
- I do 'free chat & messaging weekends'.
- I send 1-3 mass-emails each month to members and subscribers.

All of these things work to a certain extent, but - what am I missing? What other ideas could I do?

Have you done any product market fit exercises, validated your product according to Steve Blank's methodology as he outlines in his books Four Steps to the Epiphany, and The Startup Owner's Manual?

Check out those books and the Validation Board and the instructional videoshttps://www.leanstartupmachine.com/validationboard/

Sounds like you're doing many of the right things - and highly targeted which is good. Do you have a business plan that includes clear marketing metrics? Have you set up content/editorial calendars and do you use a good dashboard in order to free up your time for more hands-on engagement? Have you studied and plagiarized other dating models that might work for your business (there are no new ideas, only innovations)? Good luck to you!

Thanks Fernando - I've got the Validation Board up and will study it. I don't know what I'm doing, so it's a learning process.

Thanks Colleen - I collect a lot of metrics on a big dashboard, pulling data from Google Analytics and from a lot of queries from my own user DB. But... I don't know what my 'marketing metrics' should be. I've just started meeting with a Marketing consultant once a week for an hour, so I hope to get some more help with metrics there. As for other dating models, I've spent a lot of time watching, using and studying the big sites, and a few small ones, which is where I've gotten a few ideas. So I think you nailed it - I'm hoping there's some innovation that I've not come across yet.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply! ?o?

Hello Dave,
Assuming you have happy customers have you considered getting them to tell their story of their experiences with your service, perhaps in a short video? You saying that you are great is one thing. Your customers saying that you are great is more impactful.
I do the same for my work, you can have a look at

Should be easy to generate a viral video. There are outlets that can do a good job for cheap. I hate to say this but I think you are on the road for a lawsuit (which could be a PR opportunity).

Peter - I've had a few 'success stories' and I did have them on the site, but they eventually ended with 'Please take down our story - we aren't dating anymore.' Although, I've recently started asking for a reason of why people delete their profile, and have gotten a lot of 'because I met someone'. I'm working on a note to send to each of those people (now, and in the future) if they met on MouseMingle, or elsewhere.

Patrick - after MouseMingle was shown on Saturday Night Live, I got the call from Disney legal, and they love it and gave me a 'thumbs-up'. (Assuming that's the lawsuit you were talking about) As for viral videos, I've got a few friend in the film industry and we've been talking about ideas, but haven't done anything yet. Can you recommend any companies / outlets you're referring to? Thanks ?o?

Hi again-Tactics are tied to metrics and the metrics are tied to your overall business goals and objectives. For example, if one of your goals is to acquire 100 new members per month, you should have promotions set up (via your various social media tactics) to drive not only traffic but conversions. Your consultant can help you "guesstimate" the average number of potential conversions per tactic. From these numbers, you can track and analyze ROI and adjust as you go.

Sounds like you've got lots of visibility; you just need to figure out how to convert your viewers/participants to into long-term customers.

What I've done for all my clients, known and unknown is to create memories through experiential events. The millennials want this. Have a rave dance party with characters or a theme and an EDM DJ or depending on the age groups then split it by such. 70s theme for the over 50 crowd... It can be a "cool" non-alcoholic party with the best flavored teas, waters, ciders etc. (get sponsors for that, easy peasy). It's then fitting with the wholesome Disney philosophy. This was you engage the actual 'daters' who will post it for you. That's a much better endorsement than pushing it out, don't you think?

Marketing is not a matter of doing all those things per se, it is a matter of doing all those things consistently and persisting. It takes time. While there are things that occasionally "go viral", it is impossible to predict that a certain piece of content, no matter how good, will. Having said all that, the one thing you did not talk about is your business blog. For a variety of reasons your business blog should be the main asset of your online marketing. The hub of sorts that every other online activity bolts onto.
