What's the best mobile ad network to use for monetization?

My app BRO (www.bro.social) has been using MoPub for the past 6 months for in-app advertising/monetization on iOS and Android with horrible results. Aside from a very poor fill rate, the customer service is abysmal and unresponsive. We recently implemented video interstitials with even worse results. Even back-filling with Google's AdMob didn't help much.

What's the best mobile ad network to use for monetization?

Don't know the best, but the biggest is Google. And, for me, I would need a good reason not to use Google. As for your results, do you have any statistics to share. I may be able to help you, but I need lots of information.

There is multiple questions to answer:

Are the right ads being displayed, are they being displayed in the right place/time?
Are they even being displayed?
Is the software code installed correctly?
How good is your understanding of your clients - what this means is, your app description attracting the right sort of ads?
If they don't like these ads, what ads will they click on.
And, getting back to your original question - does your ad supplier have the right ads?

Hope this helps. If you have more questions feel free to contact.

Mopub is actually quite good as they don't only have their own inventory but act as intermediary for others like chartboost.
For video you could try fyber who as well have their own inventory and are intermediary for adcolony, flurry, unityads and others.

Hello Scott,

I'm pleased to see your question, as I know guys who were developing your app quite well. I agree with major part of answers, but would add:
1)The main in any app is traction:
- What number of active users do you have? (if you have just >1k) - none ads would be able to increase your monetization.

2) Do you have an analytics connected to your app? Can you track what buttons and screens are popular? - The same point is with ads. You need to analyse all data to find an issue.

So, try to concentrate on 2 points: "Traction" & "Analytics" these points lead to success any app. Even such app like "Yo" - they just had a lot of users. There are more samples, all of them just shows that the app idea is not the main. Traction provides owners with funds.

Hope my advice will help you.

Best,
Ivan

Founder of the BRO app.
Thanks Ivan. We have over 40k active monthly users and track major events with Localytics. MoPub has deemed horrible results and customer service with about a 30% filtrate for banner ads even w/ AdMob as backfill inventory.

That's pretty good. In this case, I agree with Roger:

1) You need to sort out what ads they click on and increase the number of that ads. - This will allow you to understand users better.

2) Make sure that the supplier provides with the right ads. - It is quite difficult to answer the question "what supplier is the best", as everyone provides with different ads and different algorithms. You need just to find the right supplier personally for you and your app.

for interstitials you can try as well applovin, lifestreet and mdotm as backfill on mopub.
for video chartboost and hypermx

but all that depends as well on countries, devices and users.

And about choosing or selecting the best supplier. check fillrate and ecpm, if both are horrible then replace with new ones to try.
Actually most of the ads provider have quite sophisticated system where they monitor what ads are being clicked on for 2 to 4 weeks and then their system adjusts which ads are being displayed to improve ecpm. Fillrate to large extend depends on geo as different networks have different core regions.
