Good examples of 360 degree photo content within VR app

Seeing lots of really interesting concepts emerge in VR. I'm interested to hear from anyone that has come across a VR app (or dev company working on one) that uses a series of 360 degree images to walk around an environment (like Google Street view but within a VR gaming experience).

Excited to see what the community comes back with

Well, not for gaming, although it would be similar in concept to a lot of what's out there.

We do this a lot when we're developing for mobile VR (Cardboard, Daydream, GearVR) where rendering resources are limited, so we'll do CG scenes and render out photospheres (or looping video, too!) or shoot 360 photos with something like a Theta and add interactive objects back into the world. Then we'll add waypoint markers that allow you to switch views. You can actually comp objects and motion graphics in, too, either as 2D sprites with something like After Effects + Mettle Skybox, or by taking 3D objects from your rendered scene and placing in the same relative worldspace inside of your rendering engine.

Awesome thanks Shaw. Would be really interested in seeing any concepts if you have any in the public forum. Cheers

Kim, I was mentoring a company the past few months that is part of the Made in NYC Incubator program out in DUMBO. The company is called VR AXS Map and they provide people with disabilities a way to reduce anxiety by navigating the space they want to visit in VR first.

They started out as a crowdsourced layer of Google Maps called AXS Map. The founder of AXS Map is Jason DeSilva, an independent documentary maker that discovered he add MS a few years ago and wanted to give people with challenges a way to open up information about various accessability options. He met the co-founder of VR AXS Map, Loren Abdulezer of Evolving Technologies Corporation at the Incubator and together they decided that VR would be the next level for AXS Map. (Loren has quite a bit of experience in the VR area and might be able to help you.http://www.evolvingtech.com/)

Hi Kim

Though not really a photo content, but we do have 360 degree content within the VR. We call it - Virtual Village.

Here is the Youtube demo for the same -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur7xtoVMiGA

Alternatively, if you want to watch it on Google Cardboard or Gear VR, here is the link to install it on Android.

I look forward to hear from you.
