Chat software for websites?

I'm looking for an expensive best in-class chat tool for my website.

We're currently using GetSiteControl, but not finding it working well because we don't get notifications in real time -- limiting, right?

There seem to be LOTS of options out there. Can I get your recommendations? It should "work" (notify me when someone sends a message, be very easy to download/install, be affordable.

Thanks!
L.

Hi Lucia,

I'd recommend that you check out tawk.to

The features are amazing and I assure you that notifications are in real time. The best part of this software is that it's free. I know you we're looking for a paid version but Tawk.to is good place to start. It has more features than a lot of paid chat software.

I recommend https://rocket.chat/ Super easy, works across multiple platforms. You could deploy your own platform and run data mining on it afterwards.

I was unfamiliar with Tawk.to; went and had a look. Can't argue about the price, although you get a fairly 'skinny' chat/support client in return. But I'm a bit worried and suspicious - how do they stay in business if they 100% completely give the service away for free? What is the catch?

We use livehelpnow.com. It is a year or so since I last reviewed the market, might be time to check and see what else is out there. Will be interested to read other suggestions.

We use LivePerson and it has worked well. Not sure about price vs. others as we haven't shopped this functionality for a while.

Personally before I become 'suspicious' of a piece of software, there are 3 things I look at. 1. testimonials. tawk.to/testimonials Testimonials speak pretty loud when it comes to software. 2. If there is an actual team behind the software. tawk.to/team Looks to be at least 17 people contributing in some form or fashion to this project. 3. Inquire if you have a concern. They actually have a service in which they answer chats for companies so there you have it. Again, it's free so it's not going to meet everyone's needs but as I mentioned, it's a good place to start.

I think testimonials aren't worth the e-paper they're written on. I could write a dozen testimonials right now on any subject you care for.

Similarly, a large sized team might just mean someone has been raiding Facebook profile pix. On the other hand, how are 17 people making money from a product they have been giving away for a year or more?

I have nothing against Tawk.to at all, but I think your broader advice of evaluating a company based on apparent user testimonials and the size of their apparent development team is nonsense.

@ David Rowell,

That's really unfortunate David. Your saying if someone wrote a testimonial about your services good or bad that it wouldn't be worth anything? Good luck with that. You seem to have a very defensive attitude towards business in general which I think is non sense if your actually in business. If you don't have anything of value to over the OP, go write an article or something about how you think testimonials are non-sense.
