Speaking contracts and consulting

Has anyone had to put together a speaking or workshop contract? If so, what should it contain besides dates and fees? Please do share any examples, resources or agentsuggestions. Thank you.

Agents generate the specific speaker contracts if you're represented by an agent or agency. It usually has the event date, topic, audience composition, fees, travel and A/V needs.

+1 for Anat. My contracts also include cancelation fees in case the class is cancelled part way through. I also include a clause that states that I own the materials and the customer cannot use that material for further trainings (either internal or external).

I found this online to help.http://www.gregwhitespeaks.com/PDFS/GW_Contract.pdf Generating the fee is a bit more difficult. Do people usually do 1 Day + amount of work/days that go into the workshop. Curious about the going rates.

Think a little about what happens if you get sick and can't make it. You won't be upset you don't get paid, depending on your importance to the event, you could be liable for non-performance. I am not an attorney, but you do want to be careful depending on how much they are counting on you to fulfill on the customer's expectations. What happens if your flight gets cancelled, which happens a lot traveling to chicago in winter for example? Who is paying for travel & transportation? I assume you included this in the fees. What are the cancellation rules? I have flown in to speak and found out that they basically had not done confirmations or prepayment and didn't have enough attendees to even cover what they agreed to pay me + the cost of the space. You may (if you are paying travel out of your pocket.) want to get some deposit up front. 20-50% is customary. ******************************************************************* Todd R.
