Wholesale pricing/packaging ideas for a makeup brush line?

I'm currently taking a position with a friends beauty company that is doing very well and has seen some large growth in the last 18 months (mainly from a large social media following). They sell all types of makeup brushes as their core product but also sell some other small things like eye shadow and eye lashes.

They have recently taken on some funding and are looking to make a large push in 16-17. I'm good with marketing/sales/etc but have no experience when it comes to creating some type of wholesale packages to promote for small to mid size buyers. I'm thinking something along the lines of Silver, Gold, and Platinum packages but it's just a thought currently.

We have some large buyers interested but margins aren't great because you're paying for exposure, so we're looking for other buyers that may come with a better bottom line.

All in all, this space is very new to me. And although I'm a quick learner, it would be great for some advice or nods in the right direction.

That's where you all come in :) Any advice/input is much appreciated!

This is a super super broad "question." So I suspect it won't get much response because "just tell me what you know" is actually really difficult for people. I'd recommend you look for an advisor who you can talk with on an ongoing basis.
I just looked in the FD advisor network under the expert areas of packaging and wholesale and there are a good number of people - reach out to 5 or 6.

You will need to develop a compelling brand strategy first. This will then inform and guide most of what you are seeking answers to. Happy to chat through off-line if you'd like.

talk to the customers and ask them.. most people in that business are interested in the eco friendly,
and cost effective packaging that will give them that sense of quality and " save the world " at the same time. Tough to do but if you pull together a group of you customers and present many of the ideas to them you will see what they look for.

With several years experience in market research & brand consulting industries, I'd say: the draw from customers will be your brand name.
What do you for packaging currently?
Personally as a consumer,I agree with Frank. An eco-friendly packaging is trendy but you must know your demographic.
Feel free to contact me directly as well.

Hello Darren, First, congratulations on the new position. I founded a luxury skincare line that was acquired after 18 months called R. Cooper. The majority of our business was direct to consumer with a handful of wholesale and retail partners. You called out the major reason why we focused on direct to consumer versus retail... margins. If the growth has come primarily through social media, I would highly encourage you to focus on more direct to consumer efforts to continue establishing the brand. Wholesale/Retail has a lot of overhead and hidden expenses. If the cash is there (I found the magic number was going to be $3-5 million for our product line) to scale into retail, then look at how you can test your wholesale options through little effort, like groupon or other flash sale sites. See how customers respond through some A/B testing. I'm happy to discuss strategies and our services if you are looking for additional support.
