3D imaging vendors for consumer products!!!

All,

I am looking for recommendations to companies/products that help generate 3D images for consumer products. Some of you may have browsed products in 3D on e-commerce sites where you can view the product in 360 and get views for it in all directions. Does anybody know of any solution providers/experts in this space? We are looking for these vendors to enhance our solution.

Thanks and appreciate any recommendations or introductions to these companies.

I just asked this question of someone over the weekend. I was offered the name Greg with Campus Ventures: [removed to protect privacy] I also happen to be looking for this expertise. Specifically, a person that create the 3D image in SolidWorks or Google SketchUp, and separately a materials science person that can help in identifying the right materials for manufacturing my products. Let me know if you want to share notes. Best, Peter

most modern browsers support webGL, which allows you to easily render 3D objects natively directly in the browser itself. as an example,http://mrdoob.github.io/three.js/examples/webgl_panorama_equirectangular.html

the underlying 3d rendering engine that powers the above experiment is three.js, a javascript based rendering engine.http://threejs.org/.

I would also look into jQuery plugins, here are a few interesting exampleshttp://www.jquery4u.com/plugins/jquery-360-degrees-image-display-plugins/

The above examples need a collation of 36 images, one for every 10 degree. If you do not have these images, you may need to purchase some sort of photography turntable and do it yourself or use a company that will handle the photography for you ( you would need to ship them your product).

There'shttp://3dbin.com/- I know the people behind it and can probably introduce you if it makes sense to do so (though I have no idea how good the solution actually is, never used it myself).

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you have in mind, but I believe Ortery is one of the leading solutions in hardware for tabletop photography studios. They have a few 3D and 360 degree solutions: http://www.ortery.com/Photography-Equipment/360-Product-Photography/3D-PhotoBench-260-360-Product-Images-Studio

Hi Ajay - I was interested in this also and came across a demonstration at a London trade show recently:

www.mode360.co.uk

I had a good look at their stand, they appear to have a decent end-to-end solution for generating 3D rotatable product views for e-commerce. There are product-static machines (product stays still while an SLR camera takes a series of shots around the object) as well as turntable based ones. A software tool takes care of the post-processing. I never followed up though, so if you start an exchange with them or purchase a machine, please share your reviews with us.

I've had a little experience working withhttp://arqspin.com/

They have a cool product which was easy to integrate into my video player. They are a small company and thus probably fairly flexible.

I use an open source 3D medical imaging programhttp://www.slicer.org/, I don't know if it would be useful. I think another open source 3D movie editor Blenderhttp://www.blender.org/might be more useful for you after you have taken the images with a 3D camera. Blender has some amazing screenshots on the web-site.
