How do you track and follow-up with influencers in your vertical?

I see the value of using a CRM for prospects, but I'm still in the early stages of sales/marketing, and I'm more interested in tracking influencers that can help me expand my network. These are folks that I want to make sure and follow up with regularly, but they're not tied to any deal or potential sale. How do others track people like this?

If you want to talk to them, the best way is through introductions from a mutual connection. If you want to track what they're doing, twitter can be good, facebook slightly better if they have an active page. If you don't have a direct connection to influencers in your vertical, you need a head of biz dev or sales that does.

This was my most important question of 2014 and I still haven't answered it. Why is it that so many are working on CRM for companies and not individuals!? It depends on the CRM you use but if they are influencers they tie to a specific opportunity. Bear in mind that influencers may not be a employee of the buyer however they are somehow attached to the buyer...e.g. lawyers, accountants and money managers to senior executives in an unrelated firm.

Start with the basics. They should be sharing a message and link about your company. It is much more effective if it is on a picture.

Pictures and videos with text and a link have higher click rates. Effective Influencer Marketing requires a text message and link on pictures that they share.
