Can anyone recommend good books on digital marketing?

Looking for good books on topics such as marketing automation, search-engine marketing (SEO, PPC, retargeting...), etc...

Any recommendations?

Thanks

The "Art of SEO" was written by one of the best in the business (Stephan Spencer). You can go to his website (http://www.stephanspencer.com/) to get some free readings as well as purchase his books there. Best of luck!

ps. As Andrew says, SEO Moz is an awesome company to learn from. Sign up for their "Whiteboard Friday" email.

Very good point on the use of blogs, as this stuff changes so quickly. Looking at the latest pitches from companies like Hootsuite, Infusionsoft, Zoho, Hubspot, Mailchimp and more give a good indication of where these guys see things moving. And looking at the pitches from Google, Facebook, Twitter and Bing all give decent insights too.

Best blog/aggregator I have found for SEO and further into 'digital marketing' as a whole ishttps://www.seroundtable.com/.

Good topic - looking forward to reading more.

The One Week Marketing Plan by Mark Satterfield -http://amzn.to/1mwTArB - covers the basics of creating a lead magnet, landing page, and drip email campaign.

Launch by Jeff Walker - http://amzn.to/1NYgykw - covers his Product Launch Formula which includes Pre-Sales prior to Product Creation (very Lean) which he calls Pre-Launch and, List Creation, JV Marketing, This is very classic and I see many successful businesses using this technique.

Landing Page Optimization -http://amzn.to/1NYgTnf - by Timothy Ash is classic. I went to one of his talks in person in San Diego. Very valuable.

There are a bunch of books on Content Marketing. I follow Dan Norris on Facebook, etc. http://dannorris.me/ You should consider his books - Content Machine and 7 Day Startup. Also, Inbound Marketing by Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah is the classic in this arena.

Melyssa Griffin of the Nectar Collective teaches a Pinterest Marketing Course worth considering - http://courses.thenectarcollective.com/courses/pinfinite-growth

Traction -http://amzn.to/1RXsUNJ - by Justin Mares and Gabriel Weinberg of DuckDuckGo.com is a must read for identifying the right channel at your current stage. I had Justin come speak the the San Diego Tech Founders Meetup in November. Was awesome!http://justinmares.com/

Mariah Coz of Femtrepreneur.co is a Rockstar at using Webinars to grow your business and teaches a course on how to do killer webinars called, wait for it, Webinar Rockstar -http://www.webinarrockstar.co/ Her main site is here -http://www.femtrepreneur.co/

I could interpret you question two ways - information on tools and best ones to you or content strategy. I attended a great presentation by jason miller who really nails content strategy IMO - see his bookAmazon #1 Best Seller Welcome to the Funnel: Proven Tactics to Turn Your Social Media and Content Marketing up to 11. Re the tools part of your question googling competitive benchmarks on each tool and then interpreting for the industry you're addressing would be your best bet.

Thanks everyone. Great recommendations. I'm pretty well versed in most of these areas, some at more higher levels than others. What I'm looking for are more tactical resources (the "how" vs. the "why"). I know the "why" stuff pretty well but how to you implement and manage these systems for maximum results. Take paid search (AdWords, ad retargeting...). It still remains a mystery to me. It's never worked as well as I expected. Maybe I need a bette understanding of the nuts and bolts.

Adding my two bits (actually 3 :) )to this
1. I agree with Andrew's suggestion- reading the relevant blogs in the different areas - search marketing (MOZ, Backlinko) , social media (Jon Loomer, Social Media Examiner, Hubspot), PPC/Adwords (PPC heroes), Analytics (Occam's Razor) etc. While books are good but I dont see them get updated with the latest trends/techniques/algorithms. And they are more tactical.

2. Try courses in Courseera, Udemy and Lynda. They get updated - some of them are high level/strategic (less tactical).

3. One of the books missing in the list above is Web Analytics 2.0 by Avinash Kaushik. As a digital marketer you need to surely understand data and how it works.

Digital marketing is evolving faster than authors can write books and get them published and ready for you to buy, read, understand and execute the information you get from the book.

Google and Facebook are making changes in their algorithms faster than any one can keep up.

Since you are looking for a tactical to do list, I would recommend you get a good team to help you execute. One man/woman band is not going to work.
That is what I did after studying, experimenting and burning five months of time and some money.

Here is a short 10 point program:
1. Research market and competition
2. Content Development
3. Lead Capture
4. Sales Pages
5. Blog & Social Media activity
6. Analytics
7. Content promotion on Social Media
8. Email campaign with auto responders
9. SEO, PPC & Remarketing to drive traffic
10. Support and Retention engagement with new users
