Logo design options?

Hi there,

As a first step to starting up my business, I am looking for a good logo designer. I don't have the name yet but I have some options and will check the tools that some of you had recommended in the earlier 'company naming' discussion.

Do you have any recommendations for me to find a good (both in terms of creative juice and design skills) logo designer?

I just did a contest on 99Designs that I was pretty happy with. One thing to note is that you can't trademark the resulting logo, which I didn't know going in (but you do have copyright, so that may be OK for most use cases). Also, I would have done it as a private contest, as many of the 100+ designs that I got (a lot of high quality stuff) started converging after a few rounds because people were seeing what I responded to. Would have rather wanted participants to push me a bit in terms of suggesting designs that were off-brief, but still interesting.

We used 99 Designs for the AbbeyPost logo (see attached) and I loved the process. I was able to control costs, specify type of logos (typography vs all graphical, etc) and then evaluate submissions from a number of graphic designers. We get compliments on our logo daily, from users as well as investors. Hope this helps! Cynthia

To throw a designer's name into the ring, consider Ryan Putnam at http://rypearts.com/ who is fantastic and affordable.

I would highly recommend checking out 99Designs.com. They have really good designers and you get a community of people that can give you ideas rather than hoping the single designer you choose gets it right the first time.

I have tried 99Design.com and it is money well spent. They provide you with upward of 50 designs to choose from and then you can pick a few select designs and ask the designers to tweak them as per your requirement.

One more redundant vote for 99designs. You can continue to work with the winning designer to build out your designs beyond logos -- or extending logos into new applications.

Hello Duygu,

You should look into DesignCrowd for custom logoshttp://www.designcrowd.com/

Even better, if you do not have your company name yet, you should browse through BrandCrowdhttp://www.brandcrowd.com/
There are thousands of pre-made logos for non-existing companies on there, so if you find a name and logo that fits your business, you could end up naming and branding your company in one fell swoop. :)
You can also purchase a logo that is "close enough" and then modify the name and/or design to fit your needs.
You can also contact talented designers there whose logo designs you like, and see if they would be available to design a custom logo for you.

Hope this helps!
