Are there business mentors that help with starting a business or are they just about growth?

I'm wondering about.finding a mentor. Is there a good place to look? I have talent, but can't seem to land clients. There's not much money to pay, so I am hoping to work something out. Is there a chance to find anyone like that or am I on my own?

Matt, find an accelerator that focuses on your niche/market. Identify the mentors they have and see who is of interest. Join the accelerator you feel meets your needs as a virtual member. Bam, you now have an introduction directly to whom you want to work with - not only an introduction, but they will commit time to your progress.

Depending on where you are located, there are lots of resources. You may first want to look at the SBA - they offer a lot of services https://www.sba.gov/content/find-business-mentor They partner with SCORE which provides mentors - https://www.score.org/ Good luck! There are a lot groups that you have to pay to join. They may promise a lot but may not be a great value for the money. Taking wise council where you can find it then being true to yourself as you build the business is key. Simon Sinek encourages us to remember that people buy from us because of why we do what we do. Communicate the passion of your talent and your why and you'll be off to a great start! (Check out: https://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action?language=en). There's a lot of wisdom and good ideas in this thread. I was checking off all of the items that I'd suggest and they're all covered here. In addition to all of the above I'd suggest that you take advantage of all of the free resources ranging from the SBA to the advisee network

Check out SCORE. http://score.org Service Core of Retired Executives. It's free mentoring.
