Outsourcing HR - what's your advice with few employees?

We are getting ready to hire our first employee and I'd like to outsource payroll, taxes, deductions, etc. What is the best way to do this with 1-3 employees? I'm looking for a cost effective way to make sure that we meet our regulatory obligations w/o having to know all the ins&outs of state and federal employment laws. Something painless and inexpensive would be great. Thanks in advance FDers.

Lucia

I'd recommend Zen Payroll (now Gusto).

An online integrated system that can service your payroll benefits and hr all in one place would be great for your small number of employees. You don't need all the analytical data management that most of the larger enterprise payroll companies will try to sell you on. You can get payroll for three people under $50 a pay period if you shop around right. Rory Brandt Waikiki Payroll Service President (808) 664-4164

I'd start with ZenPayroll (changing their name to Gusto). They have a great interface and are the cheapest as well. They also are adding a bunch of services to compete with Zenefits.

Systems like Xero (accounting system similar to QuickBooks)also provide built in payroll that should work fine and my be more cost effective than other solutions. I use it for one my companies. Check first if it supports your state. I use it for one of my companies.
@Charlie - I think Xero is cheaper and it includes the accounting package.ZenPayroll doesn't.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just checked out zenpayroll and it seems pretty all inclusive (great), but I couldn't figure out how zenefits got paid if I didn't contract with health and dental providers. How is the customer service with these companies? Do I get to talk to a human or is it like Stripe where it's all electronic (which I hated). Have you used these services personally and can compare?
