Any suggestions or pointers for getting technical details about Bluetooth?

We are trying to more accurately characterize Bluetooth connection performance. Does anyone have any good pointers to research papers, standards or experts that could help?

For some background. We are trying to characterize Bluetooth connection latency for various scenarios. Ideally, we would like to produce a model that shows minimum, maximum and mean initial connection times. Initially, we are not looking at Bluetooth low engery (BLE) but if you have pointers there they would be appreciated.

Does anyone know what work is already available in this area (academic papers, parts of the standard etc.). Which parts of the standard are relevant here? How do the various tunable timing parameters affect this performance? What trade-offs would one see if they deviate from the standard values?

Any pointers you can offer will be greatly appreciated for our research. We are expecting the result of this research to be fairly rigorous so we are not afraid of any of the math that will be needed.

If you are transmitting/receiving audio via bluetooth, then you will have about 30ms of latency coming from the Operating System's audio buffer and another 25ms or so from the bluetooth stack.

Sorry if this isn't helpful...that's pretty much the extent of my knowledge. You might want to check out the following page that I found via google search.

Thanks Jon. Yes, we are quite familiar with the Bluetooth SIG. We're actually members. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth SIG is a bit of an abyss. There are general technical and marketing materials available but if you have very specific questions you need to ask, there is no clear path through the SIG to get answers. The SIG forum is also not used much so the choices are things like Stack overflow and Linux Bluez forums, etc.

I know you are working with Classic Bluetooth but If you a have BLE related questions, I would be more than happy to answer them. I design and engineer Bluetooth Low Energy products and embedded devices. I've done lots of performance analysis and energy budgeting for BLE devices (it's always a customer requirement) using the TI BLE Dongle. Ping me if you ever want details.
