Want to seek advice on monetizing affiliate marketing from an expert.

Hello FD community,

I am building a shopping based product and want to talk to someone who monetizes today through affiliate programs. Looking forward to hearing back from someone who can give me advice.

Thanks!
Devdatta

Have you looked into commission junction? My understanding is that is one of the biggest sources for affiliate business.

I have a blog called Dapprly. It's a top street style blog, but I have generated absolutely nothing through affiliates. I use tumblr, which makes it harder though.

Reward style is who you go to in the fashion space for affiliates. Skimlinks is second best. And finally you have Linkshare (which has some sort of underground partnership with Rewardstyle.)

Because I was doing so poorly with affiliates I just started working on a new product that lets me turn my tumblr posts into shoppable posts. If you are interested I can tell you more about what we are doing and why I went about this way.

If you're looking for a boutique affiliate network with little to no spam, you should check out avantlink.com

Can you be more specific about what you want to know? I know some of the folks at http://shopittome.com that whose whole business is built around affiliate programs. Also know folks at Pinterest too. Just wary of routing to the wrong types of people and wasting time

Until you get some volume, I would suggest integrating SkimLinks as your "affiliate program" if that is posible (not knowing the specifics of your product, it may not..) It automatically parses your links and turns them into affiliate links. It'll also save you the grief of joining and applyng for (and possibly getting rejected) for dozens upon dozens of programs.

Devdatta, I don't know if I'm an expert but my startup leverages affiliate networks and I'm happy to chat. I'm in Florida this week but should be back next. Let me know. Anand [removed to protect privacy]

Devdatta, i'm not an expert by any means, but i know someone who is. He is not affiliated with any market maker so he's unbiased. i'd by happy to connect you if you'd like. I presume you want both a bird's eye view of what works and what doesn't and what to avoid as well as a more tactical perspective on which programs to consider and why?

I don't want to be rude but I'd be careful with overthinking this "affiliate expertise." Advertisers are generally (with very few exceptions) on one network only. So if you want Apple, they're on Linkshare. If you want Shutterfly, they are on CJ. That's why I would say, if possible, a solution like SkimLinks or ViglLink would simplify your world immensely.

I don't know what "a perspective on which programs to consider and why?" actually means. That seems dictated by his business model and what affiliate programs he wants, not by his choice. I.e. You're not going to get Apple on CJ just because you think CJ is a better affiliate tech platform.

While we're on the subject, can anyone fill us in on the choice of SkimLinks vs. VigLink?
