Workers Comp for a Start-up

Does anyone have a good recommendation for Workers Comp for a startup?

Depending on the size of your company, you will probably have to pay around $700 to $1,500 a year. A small software company in Santa Clara that I do some work with (Chuckwalla) just renewed their Workers Comp with Hartford Insurance Company. You can also obtain coverage from the State Fund, but their rates are higher and from an administrative perspective, they are a total pain in the neck to deal with.

Question -

1) Are you working with an insurance broker? If you need some recommendations, I can pass on some names at large and small brokerage shops. I have found that insurance brokers do a pretty good job. Remember they get paid by the underwriter.

I do not have a broker. I signed up on one of those insurance sites and they responded that they cannot help me in an email about a day later. Love to talk to someone real. Thanks!

Here are 2 names. You should get in touch with both. Just because Marsh is a large firm, they deal with small companies all the time.

Alison,

Have you tried Hitcox.com? They seem to be a more progressive forward looking online insurance provider and seems like you can get a response right away or talk to one of their agents. I've seen it advertised on ThisWeekIn.com and supposedly Jason Calacanis endorses all his advertisers personally

Here's their workers comp solution:
