How much equity should I give to a new technical co-founder that I want to bring in to my company?

I'm an entrepreneur that has, through bootstrapping and a friends/family round, built a product and is currently in-market, with customers (not many...but they are real and using the site). The customers are loyal and believe in the product. The webapp was built using offshore developers that are really good. I want to bring in a technical co-founder that could take many of the product management/design/development activities off my plate, allowing me to go out and market/sell more.

How much equity should they get, assuming they aren't going to receive any base salary, at least at the start?

Interesting question, In my case I am a technical co-founder, during equity I keep 40% and gave 60% non technical co-founder, In your case you are handling important things marketing/selling, For Managing the web app a senior technical person is required for that but not required to add a technical co-founder and give more share. Think about adding a technical adviser then you can give less share reasonable monthly allowance.

Give them a base salary (bad assumption!) and 10-15%.
