Any advice on naming a consumer facing mobile product?

I'm sure some of you out there have gone through this at one point in time. You are working on a new mobile application and can't quite land on a great name. This is what I am going through now and I wanted to see how you were able to land on a great name. Any useful resources for naming product (aside from the dictionary) such as books, blogs, etc.?

Here's a great guide from the Igor naming agency: http://www.igorinternational.com/process/naming-guide-product-company-names.php I've named a few products myself, always happy to share a deck privately if you're interested.

For apps, remember to keep the name short, or else it won't fit in one line (and that doesn't look great on most phones, tablets).
I know that the name is very difficult to pick. The company name is normally easier that the product name, since it's often not as visible to end clients. My partner and I struggled for about three weeks to find a name that we liked.

One thing you could do is give your project a working title. Of course, this is cumbersome once you get to the phase of designing logos etc., but it's a good way to start if the name is really holding you up and keeping you from progressing on the development.

I personally like to pick a few words associated to the product and then translate them into other languages (even latin and ancient greek). This may help brainstorming.

You could also follow they trend of replacing all i's with y's (like Lyft), or simply leaving out a vowel (like Tumblr).

Hi Oleg

there are a lot of blogs available on naming Do's and Don't but it seems great names comes from brainstorming and experience only. I have named a few company names, project names , product names etc. I can help you free of charge by suggesting some great names but you need to tell me the function and end use of app. Either you can discuss it on whatsapp +919999981613 or write to me at digitalsalesmen at gmail.com
