Does anyone have experience building a CRM in Rails?

Does anyone have experience building a CRM in Rails?
I'd love to hear about your experience and learn some of the gems and workarounds used etc.

I know about the rails open CRM projects, but there seems to be quite a bit of customization needed and this makes me a little nervous. Coding it from scratch is out of my personal comfort zone but it's something Im digging deeper into.

Just looking to hear some experience from people who have built a CRM in rails or for you to point me to a few resources.

Hi Bob,

I built a review platform that needed CRM for management of users, items, etc... The Rails Developer I worked with suggested Rails Admin which is a GEM that provides basic CRUD functionality for all of your models. It's pretty much a turn-key solution that you can then customize as needed. This is what I'd suggest to get started. If you want to discuss further, just shoot me an email.

Assuming you don't mean building a generic CRM for the company. That you mean a CRM for a rails product.

Have you tried intercom.io ? For a project this tool is great.

Yes, ActiveAdmin is great! It's basically a web editor for your database tables. This is especially useful with first releases where you trust completely the user -- you.

It's also insanely customizable. However, when the customizations increase, I've found ActiveAdmin more trouble that it's worth. It would just be better to build the feature from scratch.

So, as always, "it depends" :-)
I'm happy to chat offline.

I recommend to use TeamDesk.net online database builder. We have built multiple custom CRM's with minimum of coding. Pricing is also very competitive.
