Easy way to grant access via invite code?

X
Hey everyone,

Does anyone know of a way to easily provide a layer over a website that collects an invite code and grants entry-access? There are so many launchrocks of the world, I figure someone out there must have created something for this purpose too.

Thank you!

It depends on what your site is being hosted on. Just about every framework allows for adding authentication of some kind but depending on your host/platform will determine what types of authentication you can use and how flexible it is.

We have been usinghttps://www.prefinery.com/ with good success. Have not had to upgrade to premium, yet. Just need to keep the tester list clean and under 20. Only challenge has been dealing with our production vs. development environments. So far, we are using a single instance of Prefinery. Easier from a dev perspective, but a bit of a challenge keeping the list of testers to under 20. You may want to consider an instance for dev and another for production.

Depending on how tech savy you are you can implement simple HTTP authenticationhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_access_authentication.

Hey Alex, Trying to navigate their page -- so just to be clear, only twenty users can enter the site via invite-code at any given time? Can you up that number with a premium membership? Thank you! Christina

Prefinery is for collecting requests and managing testers. It lets you see a list of requests and approve people, give out codes to bloggers good for 50 people, give each user n invitations to pass on, etc.

The service works with any number -- you just have to pay after 50 (not 20) testers.

Prefinery is awful. They lied on their marketing page and tries to make us pay more to export data.

I open sources a good project for this. Run it for free on heroku:

There was a startup who presented similar feature at Columbia(MD) Tech Breakfast sometime back , there solution was more security focused but I think some insight might be useful. They could create QR code based on various paramete and provide authentication to website or application. It might be more complicated for your need but worth checking out http://qrhook.com/ Thanks Sameer
