Best online software for managing IP / patent portfolio?

Hi all, on behalf of my entrepreneurial clients, I'm looking for the best online software for managing an intellectual property (IP) / patent portfolio. They would be considered SMBs with a small portfolio, maybe between 15 and 50 patent families as well as some copyright and trademark assets. Their needs are to effectively manage the portfolio, stay on top of prosecution and application proceedings, connect patents to their product suite, assess litigation and competitive landscape, and be able to present an IP overview to constituents (internal execs, investors, corporate partners) quickly and easily, among other things. The ideal solution would probably be a SaaS at a reasonable monthly price point. Any suggestions?

Vinay - My law firm has developed some proprietary processes for doing exactly this sort of thing, using Six Sigma and Lean methodology. For trademarks, we have even reduced the interface to an App that is available for iOS and Android, the App functionality for patents is in the works. I would be pleased to discuss with you. IP law firms, i assume, use some application to to track this info for their clients. It has to be reliable and secure: if you are a patent attorney and you forget to respond to an office action, for example, you are in deep sh*t. I would talk to some patent law firms and see what they use. The other issue you mention is 'connecting patents to their own product suite' - i'd be interested to see what you find here. Making sure you are properly protecting your own IP as it grows (as new features are developed for example) is a challenge for most SMBs.

AppColl.com is cloud-based, very reasonably priced, and great on pure docketing and tracking. But my take is it's more directed to practicing patent attorneys (whether law firm or in house). It has a very "database" feel. I'm not sure it's going to be very satisfying for your business-oriented reporting requirements.

You might also want to look at Anaqua. It is literally an order of magnitude+ more costly than AppColl, but I have been hearing about it a lot lately from the business-side and it may offer more if the pricing is in range.

I just started work developing a new law firm-independent SAAS offering that is similar to what you're looking for, although we're very early stages and initially focusing our MVP on a subset of that functionality important to early-stage startups. I would be happy to chat offline re: whether it may be helpful to you.
