Where's a good place to stay for startup founders coming to San Francisco & Silicon Valley?

I get asked one question all the time by startup founders coming to San Francisco/Silicon Valley to raise money: "Where's a good place to stay for startup founders coming to San Francisco & Silicon Valley?"

Here's my shortlist in no particular order:

  • Startup Basecamp
  • SiliconHouse
  • StartupHouse
  • Startup Crashpad
  • Local Bigwig
  • CraigsList
  • Airbnb
  • Live Lovely
I'd be delight if you can add to this list!

Move to LA. Much better cheaper options (both for housing, office space, and talent).

I'm living in the 'Negev' on 6th street. It's one of three houses that form part of a social community; specifically designed to provide cheaper housing and networking opportunities for Entrepreneurs, Startup Founders and those working for top end tech companies. Www.thenegev.com

I would also checkout www.embassynetwork.com. The houses here are both entrepreneurial and have a strong social enterprise focus. They tend to be a little more authentic than the startup houses I've been too that have a very "networky" vibe.

Hey Steve, It depends of how long will they stay and how much money are they willing to spend. First remember that Bay Area is a big area, driving or riding a train they will spend more than an hour from San Jose to San Francisco and almost an hour from San Francisco to Palo Alto. Assuming that they have a fully book schedule with appointments with VCs, they should be as close as their meetings are. Depending on the stage of their startup, and how solid their pitch is, they should stay for one or two weeks for follow up meetings. My advice Airbnb. By the way, send me the good ones. C All the best, from the bay.
