Should startups attend CES?

X
Being a startup, budget is important and given that the Consumer Electronic Show is quite expensive and insanely chaotic. I agree there are great networking opportunities, but doesn't really seem worth it unless there is a specific target. Is it really worth it for a startup to attend? Would love to hear experiences on the pro and con of people who have attended.

I'm attending this year for the first time, and I've found the experience valuable (mostly because of having prearranged meetings with specific people while I'm here - specific targets, as you say).

If you're in the IoT/hardware space the landscape perspective is useful though likely not a sufficient reason to attend. But given that expo passes to CES are $0 if booked in advance, it can also be a productive coding/work retreat experience for a small team.

Katie, CES and any and all other events you attend should require that you have a goal and a plan. Just showing up and hoping for something good to happen is not very efficient, economical, or effective.

Although serendipity can happen, just going to network is the wrong reason to attend. I am assuming that your question was about attending, not exhibiting. Correct?

Hi Katie Depending on what your start ups does I think it can be incredibly useful> I would just be sure to do a ton of outreach before hand to try to set up meetings or at least introduce yourself so you know your time will be productive. Best, Erika
