What is a good web hosting service for web startups?

I need a good web hosting service that can provide me the following:

  1. Fast, Reliable, Apache PHP Hosting on Linux
  2. Provide dedicated Mysql DB Server hosting rather than bundling both Apache and MySQL together in one host/server
  3. CDN support to cache static assest such as CSS/JS
  4. Preferrably SSD harddisks

Any pointers into such a hosting or managed hosting service at good price point?

I have tried Fatcow, its cheap but very slow. Inmotion hosting seems lucrative with their SSD hard disks, but they do not have dedicated DB servers.

I am OK to use a combinations of server / hosting providers as well.

I'm a big fan of Heroku; they support numerous servers, databases, add-ons for CDN support, etc. -- My application is Node/MongoDB.

You can start development with totally free tiers, then bump up to paid when dedicated/clustered nodes are needed.

Given your background, why aren't you going with AWS with a LAMP stack AMI... with maybe CloudFront for your CDN.

If you want something a bit more managed, I've had good experiences with both MediaTemple and Dreamhost VPS.

We offer custom solutions for our hosting clients all the time and I'm sure we can tailor to your needs at our Canadian facility! Feel free to contact me at [removed to protect privacy] or post your follow-up here.

Our cloud platform offers distributed high-availability storage so you're never relying on a single piece of hardware for your uptime. We can also set up separate DB servers as well as load balancers to ensure your application automatically scales out when needed. We don't have this on our website but we can also put you on our global CDN which uses a global anycast DNS to ensure your end-users have the fastest page loads and improve their user experience.

We love working with start-ups and I hope you give us a shot!

Dreamhost VPS seems very interesting...

@Michael Brill- I will definitely be looking at or switching to AWS once we hit growth stage.. for now aws seems little too expensive for a small startup like us..

They all provide free 1yr credits for startups.

I'm using Nephoscale - all SSDs; they also provide promotional prices for startups

I'm surprised nobody mentioned DigitalOcean.com They're an upstart, and have a quick/easy way to create images with various stack. So you can have one instance be your database/repository, and another be your web/application stack.
