Very Early Stage Startup Marketing and PR

Hi all,

We just launched our first public beta (RippleAway.com) and are realizing
that the "build it and they will come" theory doesn't hold up too much.

I'd love to hear from the FD community and how you guys went about
launching and marketing your first product/startup. We are looking into
social media, travel forums & bloggers, and possibly even advertising.

Any suggestion/feedback/ideas are greatly appreciated!

Hi Alan,

May be I am not the right person to suggest, but I can point to book that
tells how to get customer. This is always the case, products are build in
assumption, the final result is customer never exists. For this kind of
dilemma to get insight read this book

Later you can work to change product or ...

Hi Alan,

I think a good PR story focused around one of your users in a journal that
travelers read would help.  And, obviously, you want to get the references.
Maybe require? someone to refer at least one friend before their free app
can be used.  They should be willing to do this since this is in line with
the intended use/need for friends to be on the platform.

The Entrepreneur's Guide to Customer Development <http://custdev.com/> is
basically a summary of Four Steps to the Epiphany. Although it's not a
replacement for the book it can save you some time getting started.

Thanks all for your responses and feedback. So far, I've mostly reached out
to a handful of bloggers and travel forums but I thought I'd do a small
update.

Briefly, we were on the front page of iTunes/Travel (New & Featured). This
drove ~5x more download traffic for us. If you know anyone in App Store
Optimization, I'd be interested to chat.

Alan - I do social login optimization all day every day. Happy to take a
look at what you did if you want to connect.
