Does anyone have any recommendations for CPG manufacturing?

I'm specifically looking for advice on identifying manufacturers of natural eco-friendly fem hygiene products. No clue where to start. Looking specifically for North American (USA/CAnada).

Can you be much more specific? What are you looking to do or find out? Do you want to manufacture something or talk to them about something? Not enough detail to get great answers here...

Jessica, I'm looking to manufacture eco-friendly fem hygiene products - ideally with someone who already does this so I don't have to reinvent wheel and deal with regulatory issues. Does that help?

Years ago, I worked in the category. Depends on which products you're talking about but J&J sold some plants to a Private Label Co. I looked through the list and didn't immediately recognize the name and/or address. Probably got merged into another company or shut down. But maybe that list will help.

Happy to give you a historical perspective on the category. A bit dated, but suspect it has not changed too dramatically. Its a hard category to dramatically disrupt.

A friend of mine owns a small brand of natural, gluten-free cosmetics and toiletries that she recently launched in NYC. If you give me a little more detail about what you need I might be able to put you in touch.

Hi Ginger,

Feel free to e-mail me and I can direct you to a few folks. I managed Avalon Organics and Alba Botanica a few years ago.

I'll repost an answer to the same question that I just posted on Quora. I also have a couple of contacts who make feminine hygiene products if you'd like to reach out to me directly.

Finding the right contract manufacturer for skincare, beauty [and femininehygiene] products is a challenge. Your best bet: networking with people in the industry.

There are thousands of contract manufacturers and most have things that they specialize in (natural, OTC, skincare, color, etc.).

GCIMagazine.compublishes a directory once a year. (I think it's available via their clunky website, too).ThomasNetis also worth a search.

Directories are good for finding companies you probably haven't heard of, especially if you're looking for someone near you. But it's hard to get a good sense of what these manufacturers are good at.

Trade shows are also an option.Cosmoprof North AmericaandHBA New Yorkare two I've checked out and there are many more. (Trade show websites show lists of past and future exhibitors and speakers that are worth checking out, too).

As I said above, your best bet may be networking. But the beauty industry is definitely not as open as tech.

If you meet owners of beauty brands they'll often be reluctant to share with you who does their manufacturing. But if they won't share the name of their manufacturer, they often have a good Rolodex and may be willing to point you to others.
