Who are the best freelancers to modify Wordpress themes for special UX functionality?

I am starting an e-commerce company whose site will need some special UX and database functionality that is outside the bounds of Wordpress e-commerce themes.

Has anyone used a great freelancer (or firm) to customize their Wordpress site's UX functionality?

I've posted freelancing sites, but I'd always prefer a referral, if possible.

http://couleecreative.com. i used them to re-design my site, gamezebo.com. though my site wasn't e-commerce, they have that expertise as well.

Paul, while I'm not familiar with your specific requirements, usually using WordPress (blog system) as an E-Commerce platform isn't a good idea, while there are plugins that will help you set it up, you'll end up with a Frankenstein monster that will not scale nor allow you to freely upgrade/update, in short: your TCO will raise every month (and well, one of the known flaws of WordPress is security...)

I've developed WordPress sites for big non-profits like GirlScouts of America, fortune 100 companies like Conde Nast, and many others in the last years. What I can offer is: take a look at what you're trying to build and recommend the best approach (for free). Feel free to email me at [removed to protect privacy].

As for recommendations, I would go with AD:60 (http://www.ad60.com in NYC) They are good, expensive, but good. Another alternative is Luminopolis, cheaper and good as well (http://luminopolis.com/, they're based in Kansas)

Have a nice day,

We have built a number of WP sites by modifying themes. The key is to make sure the plug-ins are supported and the developer updates the theme. While Gaston is right to some degree about using WP for ecomm, it really depends on what you're asking it to do, i.e. how many SKUs you are managing. Shopify does offer a nice WP plug-in or you can find themes with Shopify functionality already built-in. I have a few subcontractors I can recommend if you need some. Good luck to you.

Hey Paul, I've got a guy that I know does excellent work on wordpress. I highly recommend him. His name is Stephen, he's based in LA. On his site, he primarily highlights the work he does in the automotive space, but he's done plenty of work outside that industry, and can definitely help you achieve your goals, he can make wordpress SING. His site, here: http://rift.solutions is also built on wordpress. Hope that helps.

Mike - our team at FreshConsulting.com does design led sophisticated development and we have done lots of complex UX wordpress sites, including e-commerce applications. We've spoken at Wordpress events and handled sites with upwards of 1M page views / month. We might not recommend eCommerce with Wordpress depending on the specs, but feel free to give us a call if you'd like some recommendations.

Hi Paul, I have a couple of freelancer friends - both Princeton grads and quite talented - who might be interested in the job. Send me a personal message and I'll put you in touch if you're interested. Gabe

If it were only UX changes, then you might be able to stick with WordPress but if you're looking at database modifications as well, I'd recommend graduating from WordPress onto your own app. Feel free to message me if you'd like to discuss further.
