What's the best way to get press?

I've been talking with my friend that uses Vocus and was thinking about just doing in-house PR. Others have mentioned hiring a PR specialist or using an agency. I'm lost..

I found Pete Kazanjy's blog post (above) and Gagan Biyani's Udemy blog posthttps://www.udemy.com/blog/udemy-launch/to be most helpful.

(If anyone cares) We will probably stay away from Vocus and a PR firm and do the following:
1. Tighten up our new responsive site.
2. Hire a specialist.
3. Pitch on our more important newsworthy events.

I'll keep this thread updated with our progress.
