How to get started buying wholesale components?

Can anyone help me understand how to purchase components for the product I am building. Specifically LCD displays in the normal TV and Monitor size. I would like to purchase the lcd displays and controller boards and I know that most are made in Asian markets. The few reps I can get to talk to me are quoting more then I can buy a full TV from retail. Any ideas on how to get started or make connections/contacts?

Check out Banner engineering, by think allied (http://www.alliedelec.com)
I am not sure about full scale production, but I've done some DIY projects and the prices were very reasonable, and the reps helpful.
Hope it's what your looking for.
Good luck!

http://www.alibaba.com/ has sellers that offer low minimums and when working with brokers try and get samples, of a few pieces for testing - that usually works for me.

I was recently made aware of a company called TMG-I. While I haven't worked with them and can't vouch for them directly, they seemed more than capable of doing what you need. My connection there is Tannaz: [removed to protect privacy]
