Do any marketing automation companies have unpublished starter rates/deals for startups?

The lowest published rate for Marketo is $900 a month and based on speaking with the sales rep, I think they'd come down a bit for a startup but it would still be in the hundreds of dollars a month arena. I'm looking for great automated email marketing capabilities that can integrate with either salesforce.com or relateIQ CRM. Are there recommendations?

ToutApp.com has a 3 seat $150/mo plan. not entirely automated, but very useful for Gmail + email auto marketing.

Act-on entry level plan is quoted at $500 and there may be wiggle room there.
To totally save, you could go with a regular email solution -- Mailchimp claim supports for drip campaigns with the triggers in their auto-responders. Am just starting to use that with a non-profit for first time and will know soon whether it's comparable to the marketing automation solutions.

Haven't played enough with Intercom.io or Customer.io but they probably overlap with a lot of your automated marketing needs at a much lower costs than the big guns.

Check out Act-On. They have fully featured plans that start out at $500/month.

I think Vocus has a package that's around $350 a month. Or you could just roll with Mailchimp as a standalone like Eoin suggested.

We use Autopilot and it's been pretty good so far. But we're still paying around $500/month which was negotiated down from their original cost since they were growing and we're still pretty small ourselves. They've been great to work with from a customer service POV. Anytime we've had a problem, I've been able to get a person on the phone. Plus, they do integrate with salesforce. Feel free to mention my name if you decide to contact them (I get no compensation for a referral). ANDREW*TOMASIK * DWYSYWD

Thanks everyone for your help! I'm going to play around with a few of these. Current thinking is mail chimp + relateIQ as my crm...

I just tried ToutApp and here were my thoughts after playing around for 20 minutes: UI is really clunky and while I think they have auto follow-up, I don't think they have triggers for events that enable you to only send followups if certain actions happen.

Not sure how much are they but try ExactTarget. A company recently acquired by Sales Force. I used to work with someone who's now their sales rep.
